The workflow
01
Input
An approved, authenticated gateway submits source events on behalf of a named system, under a dataset and handling rule agreed in advance.
02
Acquisition and preservation
Admission is explicit. Events are made durable with their configured payload and checkpoint context before any processing begins, so acceptance is never implied by a successful parse.
03
Transformation
Observed time and source observations are normalised into canonical records. Eligible information is indexed; the retained event remains the authority behind it.
04
Discovery and retrieval
Observations are searchable by time, identifier and location alongside material from archives and repositories, with the same citation guarantees.
05
Governance
Replay protection applies at admission. Processing is bounded, so a burst cannot consume the resources that durability depends on.
When it goes wrong
Failure variant
Capacity pressure arrives. The gateway throttles or rejects at the admission boundary and says so, rather than accepting events it cannot make durable. Work already retained stays durable throughout.
What this does not claim
NERVE states when an event was accepted and when it was observed. It does not publish a measured end-to-end latency figure for your environment. That figure is established during evaluation on your own hardware.
